Healthcare worker shortage as the pandemic (and mandates) continue

Experts predicted a healthcare worker shortage would take place around a decade ago due to the high demand brought on by Baby Boomers aging and having more healthcare needs. Factor in that we’re in the middle of a pandemic to make this situation even worse. Healthcare worker burnout has become a real issue in the industry as COVID cases continue to skyrocket with the Delta Variant. With such full facilities, many workers are also forced to face the impossible decision of choosing between helping two critically ill patients. Is it time to face the fact that many nurses and healthcare workers are not paid enough for having to work in this environment? Do we need more governmental aid for these workers and the industry as a whole as the pandemic continues to surge through our country? With so many American’s refusing COVID vaccinations, time will only tell how many more workers will refuse to work under the exhausting conditions.
