Freelance work booms during the pandemic

Since the pandemic, more than a third of US workers – or 59 million people – took on a freelance gig as either full time or supplemental to their full-time job. Freelancers contributed $1.2 trillion to the US economy this year in annual earnings – which is a 22% increase from last year. With almost 40 million people unemployed due to COVID, it’s no surprise this has been a big trend. Millennials and Gen Z are the biggest generations contributing to this increase taking on freelance gigs such as data entry, mobile development, writing, customer service, marketing, as well as homemade goods to sell on Etsy.

Have you taken on any freelance work during the pandemic? Is it in place of a traditional job or supplemental?
