The Risks Taken By Healthcare Professionals

I think it is hard to argue that the people that are most at risk on a daily basis currently are doctor and nurses on the front lines of COVID-19. CDC reports that there are 552 deaths of healthcare workers as a result. I am curious to hear from any healthcare professionals or any one on here that knows or lives with a healthcare professional, what the daily routine is like and the measures being taken?

One thing that I did notice here in this piece is that, other ailments and overall health in other area is very likely going to worsen as the result of people not going in for care because of the pandemic.

“A Kaiser Family Foundation poll conducted in May found that 48% of Americans said they or a family member had skipped or delayed medical care because of the pandemic. And 11% said the person’s condition worsened as a result of the delayed care.”

Has anyone here been delaying doctors / medical visits because of the pandemic?

I know a couple people who were front lines healthcare workers, and I think the mental toll was huge as well. They witnessed deaths with no family members allowed around, no funerals or celebrations of life. They came home each day and had to get undressed in the garage so as to not track in any contaminated clothing. They had to fear the risk of themselves or their inevitably exposed family members getting sick. They all deserve some serious recognition for what they’ve been through! Truly heroes.

It’s interesting to point out the delay in medical care. I know I put off a doctors appointment back in the April due to the pandemic. It was just a check up, but the idea of being in a healthcare office with potentially very sick people wasn’t worth the risk to me. Mine was a minor thing, so I’m able to wait, but I do wonder about those putting off more serious procedures or checks.
