"Work while you wait"

As leaders, we want to surround ourselves with driven, like-minded professionals who seek success. Often critical characteristics of these types of people are:

  • Driven to succeed

  • Self-motivated

  • Hold themselves to a high standard

  • Desire career advancement

As leaders, we all desire to promote from within as a first option. Promotions, especially into leadership, a couple of things, have to line up. An employee is ready to be promoted, and the organization has a need. Sometimes the organization is prepared but does not have an internal candidate, OR the person is ready, and the organization does not have a need.
How do you motivate your top performers to “work while they wait?”
