Has anyone considered the fate of the museums during the pandemic? I know it’s something that hasn’t crossed my mind until now.
The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) launched a survey in early June reaching 760 museum directors to determine how museums were doing during the pandemic.
What they found was disappointing for museum lovers. I have linked the article below, but quick stats are as follows:
- 33% are not confident they would last 16 months without more relief funds
- 87% have 12 months or less left of their operating reserves, and 56% have less than 6 months left
- 44% have furloughed or laid off staff
- 41% hope to reopen with reduced staff
What do you think this means for the future of all the beautiful museums around the US and world? Had you thought about the fate of some of these businesses before seeing these stats?
