Sports Update: total of 17 Marlins players test positive for COVID-19

There was previously a post on sports during the pandemic here, and I thought this was a great follow up. COVID-19 is overtaking the Miami Marlins team, with 17 positive cases in the past 5 days including both players and coaches.

Their games against the Orioles and Yankees have all been postponed.

What do you think the right move is for the MLB? Are there steps that they should be taking to ensure safety and maintain the health of their players that they haven’t been taking already?

I had a feeling something like this was going to happen. I do think this was a smart move postponing the games, but I feel like it’s going to get to a point where they run out of time in the season to play. What is it now up to waiting after symptoms happen, at least 14 days? I have a strange feeling this is going to happen next with the NFL and something like this is going to mess up the entire season. I would hope that the NFL is learning from MLB right now and what’s going on so that this doesn’t happen with them, but at the same time, this is going to be out of their control, the way this virus spreads. It’s going to be ver interesting, to say the least.

So far MLB has been able to do a decent job since the outbreak! I watched a game last night and it is funny to watch the cardboard fans and piped-in cheering. They seem to be doing better with containment.

On a side note, saddened to learn that college football is cancelled in the Big Ten and other conferences. If they are allowing students on campus and in-person classes - not sure why they wouldn’t allow football players to play. Many teams seemed to have a plan in place for a bubble-type environment.
