Masks: The New Fashion Trend in 2020

Everyone probably saw this trend coming: masks becoming a fashion trend this year due to the corona virus. You see more and more people with trendy face masks.

Do you have one? Have you purchased one? Or, are you wearing a standard white mask?

The Times article below is interesting. It gives some history on the mask.

The other two articles talk about mask fashion trends in case you are interested in the latest trends.

So interesting! I follow a few fashion designers who have started to announce masks being added into their late summer and fall lines. New colors, designs, fabric patterns, and one even had a gold chain mirroring that of a sunglasses chain. Even prior to the “trendiness” of the mask, I had a couple friends who began hand-making them for their boutique. They sold out of their first two launches in hours - people were excited to get a cute and washable mask!

For myself, I just have two reusable masks. One is very basic and pink, and the other is from my friends’ boutique. But recognizing that this is going to be our reality for a while, I’ve been looking for others to keep in each car and inside. That way I know I always have one so I do see the value in having multiple options (for fashion or for practicality  )

I have gone through too many masks trying to find a comfy one to wear all the time. So far I prefer the mask that is like a sleeve on your head called a neck gaiter face mask, and it is just flat black.

I’ve taken to the neck gaiters as well. Everything else just wasn’t comfortable. I found a place online selling them 5 for the price of 1. Can’t beat that

There is always an opportunity! I spent some time in Nepal years ago, and fashionable masks were already common to see on mannequins on store fronts in Kathmandu. People wearing masks in Asian cities was already normal back in 2014, and quite a few people I saw would match them with their outfits. So I can see some Asian fashion brands already having the knowledge on mask fashion, and able to get ahead as the western market opens up for masks.
