Limited Supply of New/Used Vehicles- Travel to buy?

Due to poor manufacturing decisions made at the start of the pandemic, we’re almost two years into a global shortage of computer chips used in cars. I imagine there’s likely hundreds of thousands of Americans putting off buying a new or used car hoping that eventually the supply chain crisis will improve and prices will drop back to normal levels.

I’ve seen that some Americans in need of a car are finding luck in expanding their search, however, as far as 500 miles away from their home. Who can blame these people when in November the average price of a new car hit a record high of $45,872 (Edmunds data).

When will these supply chain problems improve in America. Have you put off buying a car for this reason? Is renting the better option right now? And how far would you travel for a better deal on the car you’ve been considering buying?
