Saw a segment on Fox Business (Cavuto) that there could be late stage human trials at the end of the month and production on a vaccine in 4-6 weeks. US could have 100 million doses produced by the end of the year. Wow!
Follow-up to this…markets responding positively today to the news.
This is promising news! I’m curious to see how its supply and distribution are managed once passing trial and being approved by both domestic and international drug agencies. My guess is this will have to heavily subsidized by a number of governments in order to keep prices from soaring. At least for the time being until numbers get to safe levels. Demand is going to be overwhelming.
Fingers crossed! I know the company Gilead is currently putting some finishing touches on a treatment (not exactly a vaccine from what I understand at this point from them, but it’s progress nonetheless)! That said, it’ll be interesting to see what the cost will look like for these treatments and vaccines. Hard to say what state the country will be in by the end of the year, but I would hope they try their best to make these as available as they can for the mass public (which I realize depends on a number of factors). Great news though, hope progress continues.
We’re lucky to have these scientists and doctors working endlessly to create a vaccine here! Hopefully it will be available to widespread access shortly after becoming available to the public (i.e. they will have enough for everyone). Then it becomes a “how” on effective distribution. Would they offer to elderly and those with pre-existing conditions first?
Recent news shows that drugmakers are agreeing to refrain from rushing out a new vaccine until it is completely safe. AstraZeneca, a British-Swedish pharmacuetical company just paused their vaccine study because one of their trial patients fell ill with neurological symptoms.
A vaccine will be great but I don’t see anything being completed and available to the public any time soon.
