Should Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson be worried about other countries copying their intellectual property (aka, the COVID vaccines)? The Biden Admin recently waived patent protections for the vaccines so that other countries that are struggling with cases (like India), can get the help they need.
Moderna’s CEO seems pretty confident that their mRNA shots are too complex for other countries to imitate. Pfizer’s CEO, on the other hand, has reason for concern.
These companies have sorted through hundreds of potential partners to create the vaccines distributed in the US today, so is it right for them to have to share it? Ethically, do they have the responsibility to share their IP with the rest of the world? I’m just trying to go to concerts again, so #sharingiscaring
