Advanced Technology in Healthcare

COVID-19 has definitely brought about many changes to the world of healthcare, but according to those on the front lines, not all have been bad. A major change for good is the embrace of technology in assisting healthcare workers.

One example of this is that there has been an emergence in the use of robots for many different functions throughout hospitals. These are being tested and implemented to preform tasks such as deep cleaning, simple temperature scans, to even a source of entertainment for those who are bed ridden.

While the long term effects of advancing technology like this are up for debate, I personally think that the ability to not only protect our healthcare workers but also to provide better care for patients is a win/win. With one of these robots able to reduce the cleaning time between seeing patients from one hour to 15 minutes, the results speak for themselves.

Is there going to be a big push for these advancements moving past the pandemic or are these just safety precautions for the current situation?

I don’t foresee them doing away with robots after the pandemic has diminished. The benefit for now and in the future are both great. Especially today, having robots limits exposure possibilities for maintenance and cleaning staff, patients, and all of the healthcare workers. If this can continue into the future I think that will be an amazing advancement!
