Gaming product design and college training

I have a child looking at a degree in app and gaming design. We looked at some good schools for this and I found the list below. Just curious if this is a skill set that one can gain in other ways instead of spending $200K for college? Seems like a skill one could attain via trade school or entry level training with a tech company. Anyone with experience here?

$200k is quite a bill for tuition! Especially at a young age where one might not be so sure what they want to get into. I can’t provide any clarity in terms of tech education. But I know at that age, going to 2 year community college first paying as I went, helped me a lot to gain some understanding of how the education system works, and what fields I might be more interested in than others. I guess it depends on what state you live in, but many metro areas and counties have great community college systems taught by the same professors that teach at the larger well known state schools like Michigan, Penn State, UMass, UConn, Ohio, etc.

Edit: I just want to add here that a major advantage of a community college with a trade department over just a trade school is that you have an associates degree with credits transferable to a 4 year school, should you choose to continue your education.
