Another round of $1,200 stimulus checks

With the $600 COVID-19 unemployment benefit ending this week, a second round of Stimulus Checks is fresh on the minds of many Americans.

Details are on the Forbes article linked below. It appears the exact language of the new proposal has not been announced exactly, but it sounds as if it should be exactly the same as the first round of checks. Any American making <$75,000 a year or joint filers earning <$150,000 a year would receive the same amount as the first round of checks.

What are your thoughts on a second round of checks? Is this a good idea?

Definitely a good idea in my opinion, especially since the unemployment benefit is expected to end soon. Americans still need help with countless millions of people still out of jobs. The Reps and Dems are currently discussing how much the stimulus package should provide per child in the household, as Dems want to increase that amount from the last wave of checks. It was $500 per child, but Democrats want to see that increased to $1,200 per child. They are running out of time to decide so hopefully they make a decision soon.

With children in the household and unemployment, I’m all for giving parents appropriate funds to live. Racking up credit card bills is the alternative for many, and choosing between rent, food, and electric is the reality for those dealing with unemployment and supporting a family. And like you said @fishejea, the unemployment weekly benefit ending is going to leave those jobless Americans in a bad place. I’d love to see this go through soon as I know many need it.

I think this is a good idea as so many people have been affected by COVID in one way or another. I thought the unemployment benefit was being lowered from $600 to $200, but now it’s being eliminated entirely? Either way, that definitely makes a second stimulus check more important for a lot of individuals and families.
