Will Facebook's change to Meta permanently fix issues with user privacy?

As Facebook changes to Meta, they have announced that they would delete the facial scan data of more than 1 billion users from its social network. So, faces will no longer be recognized in photos or videos. While, yes, that means we’ll have to tag friends manually like it’s 2010 again, it also means that the threat of government, companies, and individuals spying on you will be diminished (to a degree). Along with that, algorithmic bias will hopefully become less of an issue moving forward (which has been an area of controversy during last year’s protesting).

While for many this might be step in the right direction, I personally do not think we will be completely in the clear as far as our privacy goes as long as we continue to have an account. Eventually, will we all just have to accept that if we want total privacy from these massive companies we will have to return to life with a flip phone? Or do you think that this change will lead to future privacy enhancements for users in terms of geo tracking, ad personalization, etc.?

Thats great news I don’t like the idea of anybody being able to spy on me

I believe the damage is done. The people who wanted our information along the lines of facial recognition etc, has bought or was given to them already. Anything they say concerning getting rid of certain technology that tracks people etc, is probably true to an extent and looks good on paper, but the only thing they do is change the name of it. They would go bankrupt if they really did stop doing it because that is how they make all of there money.so that’s not happening.or they could sell the technology and then rent it from the people they sold it to hence they don’t own it but rent it…too many loopholes for them and they don’t want to go bankrupt.

I agree, once your Information is out there, it continues to be sold to others over and over again. The only way to be safe is to completely delete your Facebook account.

I think Facebook has get good decision in Meta about user privacy and this can make user believe transaction in Meta.
