NBCUniversal released their new platform- Peacock- last year and I’m sure were hoping coverage of the Olympics would increase their membership rates. Instead, they’re seeing a huge decline in viewership of the event. Many have also called coverage of the event in the streaming platform really confusing to follow.
While COVID could partly be to blame (Super Bowl views were also down quite a bit), as well as Simon Biles stepping aside from competing for a few days, this isn’t stopping advertisers from demanding compensation for all the low ratings. That said, NBC’s coverage is still managing to pull 2-4 times more than the other networks combined.
Thoughts on Peacock as a streaming service and its coverage of the Olympics? Thoughts on advertisers given a refund for poorer performance than expected? Let me know!
